Alastor's Hood is a Hood-class piece of armor found in Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Its 47 point increase to Defense is the highest increase of all General Headwear.
Basic Description by Game[]
Alastor's Hood increases the wearer's base Defense by 47 points. It can be used to emulate the Condemn Psynergy on a foe for a chance at an instant kill, contrary to the item's in-game description of being used to Haunt a foe. It is bought for 11800 coins while its resale value is 8850 coins. If sold while broken, the resale value drops to 5900 coins. When broken, it can be repaired by a Vendor for 2950 coins.
In The Lost Age, it is found in a treasure chest in Mars Lighthouse, in an outside area beyond the Dragon door. In Dark Dawn, it is found in a chest in Crossbone Isle. Alastor's Hood, as a Hat-class item, is wearable by all eight Adepts.
Analysis[]
It is one of the best pieces of headgear in The Lost Age, outdone only by the Gloria Helm, Fear Helm, and Demon Circlet in terms of defense (of which the latter two are cursed). A lot of players, however, do not use it for its effect because Condemn rarely hits, and it only works on non-boss monsters, so it is in effect strictly worn for its defense, which means it can be considered inferior to other headwear, such as the Berserker Band or Mythril Helm, which have useful secondary effects.
In Dark Dawn, Alastor's Hood is only available after the main storyline has been completed. Thus, while its defensive ability is still extremely high, its practical usage drops so that other pieces of headgear are more useful in the long term.

In Roman mythology, Alastor was a daemon associated with instilling hatred between families and inciting murder in general.
