The Bat', Rabid Bat, and Giant Bat are species of monsters found in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling tiny segmented bats, are palette swaps of each other and have differing levels of power and defense. In Golden Sun there are two versions of the Bat enemy, one seen in prologue sequences and one seen afterwards in the overworld, and the common Bat and the Rabid Bat are found only in Golden Sun. In The Lost Age, the Giant Bat is a minorly modified version of Golden Suns overworld Bat and is the only monster in this line to appear in that game.

Bat (Prologue)

Bat

A Bat is a small violet member with a turquoise underbelly. The first Bat features 17 HP, 21 Attack, 6 Defense, 13 Agility, and 3 Luck. Its resistances are very lopsided; while very resistant to Venus Psynergy, it is increasing much weaker to Mercury, then Mars, and finally Jupiter Psynergy.

This Bat is perhaps the easiest and most basic enemy to fight. It can only attack with a physical attack.

Felling this Bat yields 1 EXP, 1 coin, and in very uncommon cases, an Herb. These Bats are battled in both the prologue sequence to Golden Sun and in Sol Sanctum while Jenna is in the party. Pre-programmed into the prologue sequence is a battle with Young Isaac and Garet against a solitary Bat in the game's second battle. It is hardly menacing, like the other enemies.

Bat (Overworld)

Bat

A Bat is a small violet member with a turquoise underbelly. The second version of the Bat features 30 HP, 30 Attack, 4 Defense (2 lower than the first version), 20 Agility, and 3 Luck. Its resistances are very lopsided; while very resistant to Venus Psynergy, it is increasing much weaker to Mercury, then Mars, and finally Jupiter Psynergy.

This slightly stronger version of the Bat is nonetheless extremely easy to deal with for players of any level. It can physically attack and use a monster skill in the form of emitting ultrasonic waves to damage a target for enhanced damage (visually resembling a series of three orange circles shot through a target).

Felling this Bat yields 2 EXP, 3 coins, and in uncommon cases (more common than its earlier form), an Herb. These Bats are battled in the overworld region of Golden Sun encompassing Vale, Vault, Lunpa, and the entrance to Goma Cave, inside Goma Cave itself, and in the overworld region of Golden Sun encompassing the exit to Goma Cave, the entrance to Bilibin Cave, and the entrance to Kolima Bridge way to the east of Angara.

Rabid Bat

Rabid Bat

A Rabid Bat is a small dark-purple member with a yellow underbelly. The Rabid Bat features 125 HP, 190 Attack, 34 Defense, 84 Agility, and 2 Luck. Its resistances are very lopsided; while very resistant to Venus Psynergy, it is increasing much weaker to Mercury, then Mars, and finally Jupiter Psynergy.

The Rabid Bat can physically attack, use a monster skill in the form of emitting ultrasonic waves to damage a target for enhanced damage (visually resembling a series of three orange circles shot through a target), and use another monster skill named Vampiric Fang to damage a target and transfer damage to restore its own HP, which visually resembles a pair of red fangs clamping down on a target and red energy being siphoned. Rabid Bats are not standout enemies among the bestiaries of where they can be found, however.

Felling a Rabid Bat yields 61 EXP, 82 coins, and in uncommon cases, an Smoke Bomb. Rabid Bats are battled on the Tolbi-bound Ship and the overworld region of Golden Sun encompassing northern Gondowan from the ship to the Gondowan Passage.

Giant Bat

Giant Bat

A Giant Bat is a small dark-purple member with a yellow underbelly; it is actually the same colored sprite as the previous game's Rabid Bat. The Giant Bat, however, is almost identical to the second version of the Bat from Golden Sun: It features 32 HP (2 HP more than the Bat), 30 Attack, 6 Defense (2 Def more), 22 Agility (2 Agi more), and 1 Luck (2 Luck less). Its resistances are very lopsided; while very resistant to Venus Psynergy, it is increasing much weaker to Mercury, then Mars, and finally Jupiter Psynergy. Therefore, the Giant Bat is technically a minor improvement over the normal overworld Bat and is considered its early-game counterpart in The Lost Age.

The Giant Bat is nonetheless extremely easy to deal with for players of any level. It can physically attack and use a monster skill in the form of emitting ultrasonic waves to damage a target for enhanced damage (visually resembling a series of three orange circles shot through a target).

Felling a Giant Bat yields 6 EXP, 6 coins (both more than the standard Bat), and in uncommon cases, an Herb. Giant Bats are battled in the overworld region of The Lost Age encompassing the upper half of the continent of Indra, as well as the cavernous area of the Kandorean Temple and the Dekhan Plateau.
