Forums: Index > Watercooler > Anyone reading Japanese here?

Hello there, I was wondering if some of you were playing the Japanese version of the game. I'm asking this because there's something I've been meaning to check for a long time, but I can't do it myself since I don't read Japanese. I was lurking another Valeshipping versus Mudshipping fight and one of the points made by the Mudshippers bugged me.

Their point is that while Isaac & co were helping Mia to progress inside the Mercury Lighthouse, Mia tells Isaac "I feel that I can trust you". Now, everyone seems to assume she's talking to Isaac alone here, since Garet and Ivan are not present (or rather, stuffed inside Isaac's pockets :p).

Since I first played the French version of the game (French being my mother language), I had a completely different take on the situation: In French, Mia says "Je sens que je peux vous faire confiance". While in English one can use "you" to refer to either one person or a group of persons, in French "vous" means she adresses the three Adepts, as in "I feel that I can trust you guys". If she were speaking to Isaac only, she'd have said "Je sens que je peux te faire confiance".

I'm not aiming to use this point to cackle evilly and mock Mudshippers, I'm merely trying to figure it out for myself. So if someone here reads Japanese and plays the original version of the game, could that person tell me:

1/ whether Japanese people use different pronouns while adressing to a single person or a group of persons,

2/ which one Mia used in the Mercury Lighthouse, did she felt she could trust Isaac alone or the three of them?

Thanks in advance for anyone able to answer this :] Kadoudal 18:21, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
