Frost Wand is a Staff-class Artifact weapon found in throughout the Golden Sun series.

Basic Description by Game[]

In all appearances, the Frost Wand increases the wielder's attack by 76, and it is noteworthy for being a pure-element weapon in that standard attacks with this weapon are affected by the user's Mercury Power and the target's Mercury Resistance (this is in fact the only Mercury based pure-element weapon in any game). Its can be bought for 5400 coins and sold for 4050 coins.

In Golden Sun, it is sold as an Artifact in the weapon vendor at Kalay, and can be equipped by Ivan and Mia. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, it is sold in Kibombo, and can be equipped by Jenna and Sheba. Its main Unleash effect in both games is Frost Bite, which is effectively a standard physical attack that adds 28 damage points and then applies Mercury power and resistance as before. It may also inflict Stun on the target. Frost Bite visually resembles the user attacking the target and an array of icy shrapnel appearing from outside to gather into the target.

In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, the Frost Wand is sold at Te Rya Village, and can be equipped by KarisRiefAmiti, and Himi. It retains Frost Bite as its signature Unleash, although it now hits three targets instead of just one. Also, the Frost Wand gains Critical Strike as a secondary Unleash. Critical Strike is a physical attack that multiplies damage by 1.5. Normally, Critical Strike is non-elemental, however, due to the Frost Wand's status as a pure-element weapon, Critical Strike is converted to a Mercury-based Unleash.

Analysis[]

In Golden Sun, it is a worthy purchase as the next staff beyond the Psynergy Rod, especially if it is to replace the weapon whichever of your two caster Adepts is holding that is not the Psynergy Rod and is perhaps weaker than that. This staff is particularly interesting to equip on Mia because of how every one of its attacks is affected by the user's Mercury Power. As a Mercury Adept, Mia naturally has higher Mercury Power than Ivan.

In The Lost Age, it becomes available after completing the Gabomba Statue dungeon at Kibombo. If you did not get a Staff of Anubis as a rare drop from a Red Demon in the dungeon, this should prove a valuable purchase, but it might be good even if you did and one of your other Adepts is still equipped with the Psynergy Rod.

In Dark Dawn, the Frost Wand can be found in Te Rya Village. Due to its Mercury-affiliated nature, either Amiti or Rief could make excellent use of this weapon, with the other Adept retaining either the Composite Bow or Psynergy Rod, respectively.
