- "Veil a foe's vision in smoke."
|Smog is a Jupiter Djinni found in Golden Sun, and is numerically the fourth Jupiter Djinni in the games' official Djinni ordering.|
Location[edit | edit source]
Smog is located in the second, large area of Lamakan Desert, but it cannot be seen or interacted with unless you cast the Reveal Psynergy in its vicinity. When you enter the screen from the lower right, first go immediately upward to a circle of stones that contains an oasis when you cast Reveal near it. From there, go northwest to a conjoined pair of circles of stones. The right circle contains an Ant Lion pit, while the left circle contains Smog. Even though Smog is located in the middle of a dungeon-style location with random monster battles, it is not battled to be acquired.
Description[edit | edit source]
When Set, it increases base HP by 9 and base Attack by 3.
When Smog's battle effect is used, the user attacks the target and a vaporous blue cloud is let loose on impact, dealing a Jupiter-based attack equal in power to the user's normal physical attack with an additional 60 damage points added to the result. There is then a chance that the target will be afflicted with Delusion.
Ability analysis[edit | edit source]
In Golden Sun, Smog is essentially the Mars Djinni Fever with twice as much added damage and is of the Jupiter element. 60 additional damage points is quite a large boost at the point it is first found in the exact middle point of the game (the Venus Djinni Bane is the only other Djinni in the first game to match Smog in terms of straight added damage), and may be useful for a while there (though that is partially dependent on whether you keep Ivan in his mono-elemental Wind Seer class series or have it Set onto a more attack-oriented Adept). Smog will end up losing its endgame appeal to the Jupiter Djinni Squall, which has both a damage multiplier of 1.4 and a far superior secondary effect, which is to Stun the target.
In the second game, The Lost Age, when Isaac's party joins Felix's party along with their returning Djinn, the party's attack ratings and general statistics become high enough that if any Djinn are used, it would only those with damage multipliers like Squall, so Smog is considered "outdated". It should be noted though that the TLA Mars Djinni Shine is like a Mars version of Smog, but with the effect that all enemies may be afflicted with Delusion, including the ones not specifically targeted by Shine.
Name Origin[edit | edit source]
Smog is a type of air pollution. Air is a common trait in Jupiter Djinn. Something that is smokey also is giving off air pollution.
