A War Mace is a common Mace-class weapon available in the Golden Sun series.
Basic Description by Game[]
In all its appearances, the War Mace increases the wielder's base Attack rating by 84 points. It can be bought repeatedly for 6200 coins each and sold for 4650 coins each.
In Golden Sun, it is sold by weapon vendors in Tolbi, Lunpa, and Lalivero, and can be equipped by Isaac, Garet, and Mia. In The Lost Age, War Maces are sold in the towns of Izumo and Contigo, and can be equipped by Felix, Sheba, and Piers.
In Dark Dawn, the War Mace is sold in Belinsk, Port Rago, Harun Village, Yamata City, and Tonfon, and can be equipped by Matthew, Tyrell, Eoleo, and Rief. It gains three Unleashes: Critical Strike, Rolling Attack, and Berserk Rush. Critical Strike and Berserk Rush are non-elemental physical attacks that do 1.5 and 1.6 times more damage, respectively, than a standard attack. Rolling Attack is a Jupiter-based Attack that does 10% more damage than a standard attack and may hit up to three adjacent targets.
Analysis[]
In Golden Sun when it can be first bought in Tolbi, it should not be bought because a superior Mace artifact, a Grievous Mace, can be won freely as a prize in the nearby Tolbi Spring, as well as other strong weapon artifacts such as the Assassin Blade, a Light Blade artifact with higher base Attack power and an Unleash effect that may instantly kill an enemy.
In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, it should not be bought when it can first be bought at Izumo either because of the frequency that the traveling party finds newer and stronger weapons throughout the game. As an example, at Izumo's vendor, where the War Mace can be bought commonly, are several weapon artifacts that are noticeably stronger than a typical War Mace, such as a Shamshir and Ninja Blade.
If this game is being played without any data transfer or with a Password that's either Bronze or Silver-level, when Isaac's party joins Felix, Mia will be equipped with a War Mace, which is of course far inferior to the equipment Felix's party will surely have amassed by that point.
In Dark Dawn, the War Mace is outclassed by the Grievous Mace that can be found earlier, as well as other weapons later found throughout Morgal.
